In the Ciutat Noble of Ciutadella (Menorca), specifically in palau Cas Comte, we find this truly special shop dedicated to selling typical Menorcan products.
Cas Comte, also known as Torre-Saura Palace (since it was a palace belonging to the Counts of Torre-Saura) is one of the most spectacular and most historic buildings in Menorca. It is located in the heart of Ciutadella (in Plaza del Born) and building on it started in 1839, following the plans of the architect Ildefonso Hernández. It is considered the best example of Neo-classical civil architecture, also being the largest palace on the island.
This exceptional spot (number 6, Calle Mayor des Born) is where Es Celleret de Cas Comte is located, a shop specialised in selling typical Menorcan products. The many other products we can find there include all types of cold meats, cheeses, sobrasada (cured sausage), wines, oils, gin, salt, jams, beers and, of course, the typical pastries and biscuits made in the artisan way by Sa Sucreria: carquinyols, pastissets, duquesitas, amargos and our famous ensaimadas.
The shop also consists of two spectacular marés stone arches, a limestone which is typical of Menorca with a whiteish colour which was widely used in the past to make arches and walls of the most historic buildings and which, nowadays, is no longer used due to the cost of its extraction and the depletion of the mines.
Without a doubt, Es Celleret de Cas Comte is a very special place with a lot of charm, where you will be able to find the best delicatessens on the island, always made in an artisan way and following a tradition that has been handed down for decades from generation to generation. A perfect place to delve into the history and gastronomy of Menorca.
